sometimes older people should just grow up.
so, i’m working in an office with predominently middle-aged people, some are even elderly.  i have no problem with this at all.  HOWEVER, in preparation for moving to a newer office building, we’ve all had our rubbish bins taken away and replaced with recycling boxes.  i’ve never seen so much juvenile fussing over a change that is for the better.  such a little thing making...

PLEASE take more of your own photographs [ and show them to me ] write down more of your own quotes [ things that you’ve been thinking lately ] keep playing me the songs you’ve been listening to [ but tell me where you were when you heard it first ] show me the good souls that you respect, by all means [ but tell me about something they inspired you to do ] if you don’t have...

nonsense, in my world
i’m never short of things i want to do or places i want to go to or unrealistic aspirations [ i was born encouragable ] so if i’m waiting for the next swell [ for example ] watching the forecasts daily then i can spend that time writing, sketching, singing, climbing, thinking, reading [ and so on, and so forth ] but i’m often short of money [ the down side ] it can be quite...

trying to collate poetry stuff
i’ve started trying to bind together little poems and stuff, to go with short-stories, and sparrow sketches, into a little booklet that i’ll give away at my first gig in Wellington (which hasn’t been figured out yet) in which i’ll sing newer songs, and not the old ones, and i might well go under a different name, and it’ll be tentative and hesistant, and not quite...

real-time poetry, drawn from accidently being...
… i read a little bit of a book on my lunch hour and all of a sudden, i’m torn between two worlds when i return to my desk, to my LCD screen that’s lit up with fake light and purposefully dimmed to try and stop it being bad for me whilst i have a job to do. but now, returned my mind is in another world whilst my face it faces this one confused and betrayed behind my eyes one life...

…think about it: - the pleasure of an ‘after dinner’ apple - having an apple whilst walking to the bus-stop or waiting for the bus - having a contemplative apple on a deserted beach or mountain-top (my favourite apples) - [not sure this one works but…] having an apple when stressed out …”Argh.. you’ve made me so angry!  I’M GOING OUTSIDE FOR AN...

i hate this awful man.   if email is ‘too slow and formal’ then what is his classification of letter writing?  i am no longer on facebook, i left once it started getting scary and taking over the world.  my life has been much better without it.  it’s a classic example of technology making good people thoughtless and lazy.  i write slow and formal emails to my friends, or...

my new bio for tumblr
about me: 27/m IN A NUTSHELL: i used to live in London, trying to be a songwriter, working an awful day job…. then i freaked out, booked a one-way ticket to New Zealand, and now I live in Wellington. I travelled some of america on the way here. Travelling gave me time to read much more and write short stories which is a new thing in my life. since arriving in NZ and slowly settling, i have...

i spent yesterday evening drawing sparrows
and i didn’t like what i’d drawn it wasn’t so good but in the clear morning light it didn’t look quite as bad (if you blurred your eyes a little bit) you could just about see what it was supposed to be and i thought how much life is like that too and i remembered that conor oberst once said “what is simple in the evening, by the morning never is” how much...
